🔵 Colour of the Year 2027: Luminous Blue
WGSN, the trend forecaster, and Coloro, the colour-system company, named Luminous Blue their Colour of the Year 2027 in June 2025. The shade is compared to lapis lazuli on one side and cobalt on the other: centuries of pigment history and the metal inside lithium-ion batteries. At the spring 2027 shows in New York this September, blue rose 2.4 percentage points on the previous season. This is a separate system from Pantone, whose 2027 colour won't be announced until December 2026.

WGSN ran image recognition over 104 collections and 3,120 looks at New York Fashion Week spring 2027. Column dresses rose 1.7 points and pencil skirts 1.4 points, both old shapes in new fabric and colour. The top hashtag was #BrightBasics: shirts and straight skirts in bright blue, crimson, tomato red or carambola yellow. London, Milan and Paris have yet to be analysed.

A month ahead of the big four, Copenhagen Fashion Week's 20th edition showed spring 2027 in August. Polka dots and lingerie dressing carried over from 2026; panniers, crinolines and corsets brought historical romance; long shorts with a crisp shirt were the everyday answer. Basket-woven textiles, swim references in daywear and plush textures were the city's own additions.

On 25 August WGSN named four directions for the spring 2027 womenswear runways: New Glam (leather, animal print, Saint Laurent-style rock glamour), Free-Style Expression (pastels, clashing patterns, self-styled maximalism), Put-together City Dressing (relaxed prep with polka dots and plaids layered) and Romantic Vintage (sheer slips and lace with raw edges and asymmetric trim). To be checked against the runways once the big four conclude.

Chanel's resort show opened with Matthieu Blazy's little black dress. In 1926 Vogue called Chanel's dress fashion's "Ford"; 2026 marks the centenary. Drop-waist dresses from the 1920s, silk and chiffon rosettes and 1930s-style ruched gowns returned in the same season, alongside carpenter pants with hammer loops and crisp button-down shirts.

🕊️ Color of the Year: Cloud Dancer
The Pantone Color Institute named Cloud Dancer (Pantone 11-4201) its 2026 Color of the Year — a soft, almost neutral off-white. After 2021's Ultimate Gray, the honor again lands on the quietest end of the spectrum: not an attention-grabbing color but a blank space, and therefore easier to wear and to combine. It echoes a wider contemporary taste for the quiet and the clean.

Quiet luxury, building since the early 2020s, converges in 2026 with the off-white color of the year into a single thread: fewer logos, low saturation, letting texture and silhouette speak. Wearing an all-off-white look well isn't about adding color but layering different fabrics (knit, poplin, wool), then finishing with a relaxed silhouette and one leather or metal accessory.
